About the Program
Dorman High School’s Digital Art and Design program gives students the foundation in theory and skills needed to be modern, working photographers—empowering them to pursue their own goals either in college or independently as entrepreneurs.
As students progress through the program, they complete project-based assignments, independent studies, and internships to gain real-world experience and build their personal portfolios. Students who have advanced through the program have gone on to attend colleges such as Wofford, Converse, Winthrop, USC, Clemson, and SCAD—majoring in photography, education, communications, business, marketing, and other many related fields—and are now working as staff or freelance photographers all across the Southeast.
The program, founded in 2014 by DHS teacher Austin Baker and funded through state and federal career and technology (CTE) grants, began with 15 students. Today, it has grown to over 300 students each year and is taught by Austin Baker and Morgan Kitts at the main campus, and Lexi Ray at the Freshman Campus.
